Shopping.

For the last couple of years, my parents have given gift cards to all of us for Christmas so at some point after the holidays, we make a trip to the city. Since both girls already had the day off (they're in the midst of exams), we pulled J out of school and went today.

We went to the mall and we went to Chapters. Chapters, by the way, has the worst system for organizing books. I wanted two of the Canada Reads selections and I expected all five to be prominently displayed. Found one of the books I was looking for on display in the main area (Heather's Pick, ya know) but the other was nowhere to be seen. I went to the section where the books are actually organized by author (such a radical concept) but it wasn't there either. Checked the computer which said it was in stock but I had no idea where to go from there. Fortunately, an employee happened by and found it for me. No sign of the other three selections however.

I didn't buy much on this trip. The two books plus two more and some movies. It was a good day though and it's always fun to spend other people's money.

I never shop there because I can never find anything! It would be an obvious marketing benefit to display the Canada Reads books, one would think.

That's what I thought too.

The only thing I like about Chapters is that I can sometimes get good bargains. It's not relaxing or fun, the way I think a bookstore should be.
