Found on the street.
When Ice walked in the door after work today, he said, "Could you get me an old towel or something?" And I thought, uh oh.
He said she was crouched in the middle of the street and the cars in front of him were slowing and driving around her. He stopped and moved her to the side but as soon as he headed back to the van, she ran out into the street again. So he brought her home.
Her eyes were all gooey, her nose was stuffy, she was sneezing, and she was shivering nonstop. The shivering has improved but I think the poor thing has a cold. At least I hope that's all it is.
Abby switched almost immediately into mom mode and began licking her constantly. She also kept an eye on her at all times and got quite anxious if she seemed distressed in any way. The kitten didn't seem to mind being soggy and followed the dog around whenever possible. They're a funny-looking pair, given that the kitten is considerably smaller than Abby's head.
That picture does not give an accurate representation of just how tiny she is.
We tried to get her to eat but she didn't want anything to do with food. Then, when we gave Abby the leftover rice from dinner, the kitten ran over and started eating out of the bowl right alongside her. Poor Abby didn't know what to do. She stopped eating so the kitten stopped eating. Abby tried again, the kitten nudged her way right in there. She didn't eat much though.
She wasn't in the house five minutes before the kids were trying to decide what to name her. I'll call the vet on Monday to have her looked at and to see if anyone has reported her missing (unlikely, I know). If no one has, we'll probably keep her.
We're suckers like that.
and no, I'm not changing the name of my laptop
