Canada Reads 2008.

The Canada Reads list was announced today and the competition will be held from February 25th to 29th. I was volunteering at the school when the announcement was made so I didn't hear any of the discussion, unfortunately.

These are the books:

From the Fifteenth District – Mavis Gallant (set in Europe)
Icefields – Thomas Wharton (set in Alberta)
Brown Girl in the Ring – Nalo Hopkinson (set in Toronto)
King LearyPaul Quarrington (set in Toronto)
Not Wanted on the Voyage – Timothy Findley (set on Noah's Ark, so probably not Toronto. wouldn't surprise me if it was though)

So yeah, I'm a little disappointed by the diversity of settings. I was hoping to be able to use more of these books for the Canadian Book Challenge (kill two birds and all that) but I guess I should be happy that I got two.

What I'm really disappointed about is the change in host. I like Jian and I listen to him often on Q but I adore Bill Richardson. Wish I could find out if it was his decision or TPTB.

And then you said

And yet none of the born in PEI, Nvt or NWT. I may never finish my list.
