My teenager.

Today was L's 13th birthday.

For the last 151 days (no, really... 151), you could have asked her (anytime, anywhere), how many days were left until her birthday and she could have told you. Of course, most of the time, we didn't have to ask because she regularly volunteered the information.

Last night, she was nearly bouncing off the walls with excitement.

When she came home from school today, she had six birthday cards that her classmates had made and given to her. Each card was signed by multiple students and each student signed multiple cards (...that makes sense in my head, not so sure it makes sense written down...). She seemed somewhat stunned by the attention. In the eight years she spent at her previous school, such a thing had never happened so she wasn't quite sure what to make of it. She was happy about it... just surprised.

I, on the other hand, was a little.... what's that word?.... verklempt.

Tomorrow, she's having five of her former classmates here for a slumber party. She's really excited; I'm trying to brace myself for all the screaming, giggling, and running around that's bound to occur. It certainly won't be a quiet Friday night.

My little girl... she's growing up. *sniff*
