Stormy weather.

A tornado touched down in Mitchell tonight which is maybe 30 minutes from here. At least a dozen homes were damaged but, so far, no reports of serious injuries or deaths. The mayor of West Perth has declared a state of emergency.

I'm more than a bit concerned because my grandmother lives there, as well as my uncle and aunt, some great-aunts and great-uncles, and some second cousins. I have more relatives in that town than in any other single community.

The thunder and lightning started here in the late afternoon and then, sometime between 6:30pm and 7pm, it started to rain hard, the wind picked up tremendously, and the power went out several times. We caught just the edge of it, apparently.

I didn't hear that there had been an actual tornado until the 11pm news and by then it was too late to call anyone. I guess someone will let me know soon enough if there's anything that I need to really worry about.
