I remember.

... telling a school friend that I liked him and she said, "Why?? He's married!" I was only 7 or 8 at the time but that comment didn't make any sense to me.

... watching every movie, every chance I got.

... being at a friend's cottage, north of Wiarton, and hearing on the radio that he was dead. I was barely a teenager but it affected me more than the death of any other celebrity, before or since.

... hearing Robert Palmer say he (Palmer) was more talented, and hearing the radio DJ say, "He had more talent in his little finger than Robert Palmer will ever have."

I'm not a fanatic. I've never been one. But there was something about him, an indefinable something, that no other musician/actor/star wannabe has ever been able to achieve.

Thanks for the memories, Elvis. You were one of a kind.
