Synopsis: Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben survived the electrical storm in space but they're not the same anymore.
I know nothing about the comics, the characters, their relationships, history, none of that. So I can only judge this movie as a movie. And I liked it. The story was ok (although, as expected, it was mostly a setup for future sequels), the stunts and CGI were good, and the characters were mostly interesting. Evans seemed to be channelling a Top Gun-era Tom Cruise at times but it seemed appropriate so I'll let him away with it.
My kids thought it was ok, although the highlight for them seemed to be when they spotted Ben Mulroney. I didn't notice him because I was too busy thinking, "Oh, look. Terry David Mulligan. They must have filmed this in Vancouver."
It's Vicky Von Doom! And Sue's cleavage! And Johnny Storm's very cool F/X but lousy acting! The puns were bad even for Marvel. The music did not fit at all, the Thing was the only one close to being properly portrayed, and the whole deal was just a setup for sequels. But now that I've seen this lousy intro, I really don't think I'm likely to sit through its progeny.Added 10 October 2005 at 3:19 PM
