Directed by: Patty Jenkins
Starring: Charlize Theron, Christina Ricci, Thomas Dern, Lee Tergesen, Annie Corley
Synopsis: Aileen Wuornos, a highway hooker in Florida, becomes America’s first female serial killer. Based on a true story.
Startling. Shocking. Brutal and graphic. It's unpleasant and disturbing and I will remember it for a very, very long time. Theron was incredible as Wuornos and definitely deserving of her Oscar. Ricci was excellent and quite believable as naive Selby. The odd discomfort of the budding relationship and the powerful passion and lust are simply brilliant. The tremendous acting coupled with a superior screenplay created a truly great film. It is glaringly harsh but so very well done. See it.Added 01 January 2005 at 1:03 AM
Theron was remarkable. She didn't just play Wuornos, she became Wuornos. And she managed to make her, if not exactly likeable, at least sympathetic. Ricci was also good although her character was neither likeable nor sympathetic.
It was a powerful movie with some powerful scenes and it put a whole new spin on what I thought I knew about the story. Highly recommended.
