Ripley's movie review

The acting is superb, the casting is perfect, and the story is interesting. But....

The story is told with scenes from Iris's youth mixed in with scenes from her later years. Dench plays the older Iris and her portrayal of a woman succumbing to Alzheimer's is heartbreaking. Winslet plays the younger Iris and, while she does a fine job, that portion of the movie felt shallow. Like they were just skimming the surface of a much more interesting life.

I liked the movie but I felt it could have been better.
