I watched this movie on DVD and it's the only English movie I've seen with English sub-titles.
It's definitely a different coming-of-age story, and I can see why it's termed "controversial", but I haven't seen anything quite like it. More than once I wondered if it was Canadian because it was so non-mainstream.
Can I recommend it? No. Was it good? In a way.
If you are in the mood for something entirely different, then give this a chance.
Added 05 February 2003 at 10:37 PMThe acting was good and the characters were interesting, but the movie as a whole really bugged me. Perhaps it was the bit about incest near the beginning (it was treated so casually and I couldn't get it out of my mind), perhaps it was the nastiness of the main subject matter, but when the movie was over, I felt unclean, like I needed a shower. I can't recommend it.
